Signs Your Heater Needs Repair

  • No heat: can be the ignitor, the flame sensor, the gas valve or the controls
  • Heater will not start or ignite: often a failed ignitor, a dirty flame sensor or a pressure switch
  • Blower runs but the air is cold: the burners are not lighting or are shutting off on a safety device
  • Turns on and off too often: short cycling can come from a limit switch, airflow or the thermostat
  • Unusual noise or smell: turn the heater off and call us before running it again

Catching these early usually means a smaller, cheaper repair instead of a major breakdown.

Repair or replace?

If your heater is over 10-12 years old and needs a major repair, replacement is often the smarter financial move: if the repair cost is close to half the price of a new system, replacing makes more sense long-term. If the heater is newer or the issue is minor, a repair is usually the right call. We give you an honest recommendation, not the option that costs more.

If replacement is the better call, see heater installation.

  • Difficult access, a second technician, same-day scheduling, or work outside business hours
  • Replacing a compressor or a coil also takes refrigerant, charged by weight on top of the repair
