Why we repair or replace ducts instead of cleaning them

We do not offer air duct cleaning. Most ductwork in Los Angeles homes is flexible duct, and running brushes and vacuums through it can tear the inner lining and loosen the connections. Ducts dirty enough to need cleaning are usually old ducts, and old flex duct is also where the leaks, crushed runs and sagging sections are.

Signs your ducts need work

  • Weak airflow in some rooms while others are fine
  • Rooms that stay too hot or too cold no matter where the thermostat is set
  • Dust that comes back soon after cleaning the house
  • Crushed, torn or disconnected duct in the attic or crawlspace
  • A noisy system or one that runs long cycles to hold temperature
  • Rising energy bills without a change in how you use the system

Duct repair or duct replacement

We start by measuring static pressure and airflow, then inspect the ducts in the attic or crawlspace for leaks, blockages and insulation problems. You get a written recommendation and price before any work begins.

Duct repair

When the ductwork is in reasonable shape, we fix what is failing: reconnect and seal loose joints, replace crushed or torn sections, and correct a return that is too small for the system.

Duct replacement

When the ducts are old, damaged or sized for a different system, we replace them. The new layout follows a Manual D duct design. Runs are supported off the attic floor, pulled straight, sealed and insulated, and the system is tested for duct leakage by an independent HERS rater as Title 24 requires. In the City of Los Angeles, this work needs a mechanical permit from the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety (LADBS) and must meet Title 24. We handle the permit and the inspection.

Duct Repair in Los Angeles: questions

Do you clean air ducts?

No. Most ducts in Los Angeles homes are flexible duct, and cleaning can damage them. Ducts dirty enough to need cleaning are usually old, so we repair or replace them instead.

How do I know if my ducts should be repaired or replaced?

We measure static pressure and airflow and inspect the ducts. If the problems are limited to a few joints or sections, a repair makes sense. If the ducts are old, damaged in many places or sized for a different system, replacement is the better fix.

Do I need a permit to replace ductwork in Los Angeles?

Yes. In the City of Los Angeles duct replacement needs a mechanical permit from LADBS and a HERS duct leakage test. We handle both.

Can you repair the ducts together with a new system?

Yes. When we install a new heat pump or AC, we check the ducts at the same assessment and include any repair or replacement in the written estimate.
