Online guides quote the per-ton number but skip the cap and the sizing trap. GWP caps the HVAC heat pump rebate at $5,000, so on a 6-ton system you’re not getting $6,000 — you’re getting $5,000. More important: the rebate pays on nominal tonnage, and an oversized system doesn’t earn you a bonus. It short-cycles, runs less efficiently, and you paid for capacity that fights your comfort.
